It does have a funny smell--we bought it for a home that's not quite ready for move-in, so we've had it indoors, and for awhile I thought there was a smell of electrical burning in the room, I kept checking all the cords! Finally realized it was the doormat. I assume the smell will go when we put it outside. Have to say again that I just love, love, love the look of it!
