Coir mats are one of the most popular types of front door mat in use today. However that does not necessarily mean it is best for you. Below are some pro's and con's of the types of coir mats available.
|
 |
Luxury Coir |
These mats are hand woven with no backing and the borders painted in India. They are shipped to a factory here where they are personalized with your name or monogram.
| PRO's |
CONS |
| Thickness: 1 1/2" thick so they look and feel substantial. This could also be a "con" if you have a low threshhold. |
Shedding: If you ever had a friend complain about the shedding of their doormats, chances are it is this type. We design them to shed less than others but we can't stop it completely. |
| Scraping: They are designed to scrape well. So they will get the dirt and muck off your shoes |
Keep dry: These mats are designed for protected entranceways. If they get real wet they will start to decay sooner. |
| The "WOW" Factor: When you open up these mats they look beautiful. |
Fading: These mats are painted so they will fade in direct sunlight. |

 |
Classic Coir |
These mats have a vinyl backing and the coir "pieces" are stuck vertically into the backing. Acting almost like a brush turned upside down with the bristles sticking straight up.
| PRO's |
CONS |
| Thickness: 1/2" thick so they will work with most threshholds |
Shedding: Although these mats shed substantially less than the luxury coir they still shed a little bit. However it is usually not much of a problem. |
| Scraping: They are designed to scrape well. So they will get the dirt and muck off your shoes |
Keep dry: These mats are designed for protected entranceways. If they get real wet they will start to decay sooner. |
| They last: We have had one of these mats (double border) at our garage door uncovered for the last 2 years. It is still holding up well. |
Fading: The personalization is painted on the Greek Key and French Quarter mats, so they are prone to fading. However the Double border, Charleston, and Wrought Iron are completely flocked so there is no fading concerns with those. |

| PRO's |
CONS |
| Shedding: There is none. These mats do not shed. |
Cost: These mats ar polyproplene and are meant to be indoors or completely outdoors, so they cost more. |
| Fading: They are either flocked (Signature series) or inlayed so the personalization will not fade. |
|
| They last: We have had one of these mats at our back door for the last 3 years. It is still holding up well. |
